Bryans Motorcycle School runs motorcycle training from Bet 365 Stadium, Stanley Matthews Way, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire ST4 4EG. For the purposes of UK data protection law we are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy - meaning we decide what is collected and what happens to it.

When you get in touch

If you use the contact form we collect your name, email address, phone number (only if you choose to give one) and whatever you write in your message. If you call, email or message us on Facebook instead, we hold whatever you send us there.

When you book and train with us

To put you on a course and meet DVSA requirements, we collect:

• your full name and title;
• your address, telephone number and email address;
• your date of birth;
• your driving licence number and entitlement details, and any disqualification dates, which we check using your licence check code;
• your theory test certificate pass number, where you are going on to a DVSA module 1 or module 2 practical test;
• any disability, health condition or learning difficulty you tell us about, so we can make reasonable adjustments to your training or test, together with any medication or injury that could affect your safety while riding;
• your training records, which we keep so we can plan your training and pick up where you left off; and
• your test results, which we also use in aggregate to track our own pass rates.

Most of this is collected on the medical questionnaire and disclaimer you complete at the start of your training course. Information about disabilities, health conditions and learning difficulties is a special category under data protection law, so we record and use it only with your explicit consent, given on that form, and only to train you safely and arrange any adjustments you need.

Card payments are entered directly into our card machine, which is operated by our payment provider under contract. We do not record your card details in any way. Merchant receipts are held securely for 18 months.

Please make sure what you give us is accurate, and let us know if it changes - a new address, phone number, email address or licence number, for example.

Automatically, when you use this website

Our hosting provider logs standard technical information for every request - the IP address it came from, the browser used, the page requested and the time. This is used to keep the site available and secure, to rate-limit the contact form against spam, and to diagnose faults. It is not used to build a profile of you or to track you between visits.

We do not buy contact lists, and we do not collect information about you from third parties.

UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for everything we do with your information. Ours are:

• Replying to your enquiry and helping you work out which course suits you - our legitimate interests in responding to someone who has contacted us about our services.
• Arranging and delivering your training, including booking DVSA tests on your behalf and issuing certificates - necessary for the performance of our contract with you.
• Recording health information you tell us about so that training is safe - your explicit consent. You can withdraw it at any time, though we may then be unable to train you safely.
• Taking payment and keeping accounts - performance of our contract, and our legal obligations around tax records.
• Keeping the website secure and preventing spam and abuse of the contact form - our legitimate interests in protecting the site and our inbox.
• Meeting DVSA and other regulatory requirements - our legal obligations.

We will not add you to a mailing list because you enquired about a course. On the medical questionnaire and disclaimer at the start of your course you can choose to have your basic details shared with the Motorcycle Industry Association for audit and monitoring, and to receive Staffordshire Triumph newsletters. Both are optional, both rely on your consent, and nothing is sent unless you have given it on that form.

You can change your mind at any time. If you would rather not hear from us again, write to us or email ride@bryansmotorcycleschool.co.uk saying so, and we will record that you do not want email or postal contact.

This website does not set any cookies of its own, and there is no analytics, advertising or tracking on it. That is why you are not being asked to accept or reject cookies when you arrive - there is nothing to consent to.

In practice that means:

• No Google Analytics, or any other analytics or visitor-measurement tool.
• No advertising, remarketing or social-media tracking pixels.
• No third-party fonts or scripts pulled in from other companies' servers - the fonts are served from this site.
• Nothing stored in your browser to recognise you between visits.

Two components on the site are provided by other companies:

• Cloudflare Turnstile, on the contact form. It checks that a person rather than a bot is submitting the form, without the puzzles a traditional CAPTCHA uses. It runs in its default mode, which issues a one-time verification token rather than setting a cookie, and it is not used to track you across websites.
• An OpenStreetMap map, on the contact page. Because the map is loaded from openstreetmap.org, your browser requests the map tiles from them and they will see your IP address as part of that. The embed does not set cookies.

Separately, Cloudflare - who host and protect this site - may set a strictly necessary cookie such as __cf_bm to tell real visitors from bots. Cookies that are essential to providing a service you have asked for are exempt from the consent requirement in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, which is why no banner appears for them. They carry no advertising or analytics purpose.

If we ever add something non-essential - analytics, for example - we will ask for your consent first and update this section before doing so. Blocking cookies in your browser settings will not stop you using this site.

We will not disclose your personal information to a third party for their own purposes without your express permission, which is given on the medical questionnaire and disclaimer at the start of your course. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

Separately from that, a small number of service providers handle information on our behalf and only ever on our instructions, under contracts requiring them to keep it secure:

• Cloudflare - hosting, content delivery, security and the Turnstile anti-spam check on the contact form.
• Resend - delivers contact-form messages to our inbox as email. Messages are relayed straight through; they are not stored in a website database.
• Neon - hosts the database behind the site's content management system. This holds the page content you read, not visitor information.
• Our email provider - because enquiries arrive as, and are kept as, email.

Beyond the website, we share information with:

• Staffordshire Triumph - we are a Staffordshire Triumph approved training school, and they may handle customer service enquiries or bookings on our behalf and carry out audit and monitoring. They only receive what they need for that, under an agreement requiring them to keep it secure and use it only as we instruct.
• DVSA, when we book or manage a theory or practical test on your behalf.
• The Motorcycle Industry Association, for audit and monitoring - but only if you opt in on the medical questionnaire and disclaimer.
• Our card payment provider, who processes payments taken on our card machine.
• Our insurers, accountant and professional advisers, where it is needed for a claim or for our own compliance.
• Government and other official bodies, where we have to - to comply with a legal obligation, to enforce our rights, or to prevent or detect crime.

If we ever sell all or part of the business, we may transfer your information to the buyer so they can carry on providing the training and information you have asked for, on the terms set out in this policy.

Some of the providers listed above are based outside the UK, or store data on servers outside it. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards UK data protection law requires - either the destination country holding UK "adequacy" status, or contractual terms based on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. If you would like detail on a particular provider, ask us and we will tell you.

We keep information only for as long as we have a reason to:

• Enquiries that do not lead to a booking - up to 12 months, then deleted.
• Training and booking records - 7 years from the date of your last training day with us. That lets us plan any further training, and covers the period we may need the records for tax, insurance and any claim arising from the training.
• Card machine merchant receipts - 18 months, held securely. Your card details themselves are never recorded.
• Website server logs - kept briefly by our hosting provider for security purposes, then discarded.

We review what we hold from time to time and delete anything we no longer have a reason to keep.

The site is served over an encrypted connection, and the contact form is protected by an anti-spam check and a rate limit so it cannot be flooded. Enquiries are relayed directly to our inbox rather than stored in a database on the website, which means there is no store of visitor messages on the public internet to breach.

Training records are held on password-protected systems and seen only by the people who need them to run your course. No system is ever completely secure, but if a breach were ever to put your rights at risk we would tell you, and the ICO, as the law requires.

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

• give you a copy of the information we hold about you (a subject access request);
• correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
• delete information we no longer have a reason to keep;
• restrict or object to particular uses of it;
• stop using it for direct marketing;
• provide it in a portable, machine-readable format; and
• withdraw any consent you have given us, at any time.

You also have the right not to be subject to a decision made solely by automated means where it has a legal or similarly significant effect on you. We do not make decisions about riders that way - a person decides everything.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we have a chance to put it right; the complaints process in our Terms & Conditions sets out how we handle it and who sees it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.

The minimum age for CBT is 16 for a moped and 17 for a motorcycle. Where a rider is under 18 we will normally take booking and contact details from a parent or guardian, and we ask that under-18s do not send us information through this website without their parent or guardian's agreement.

We will update this page whenever what we do with personal information changes. The date at the top tells you when it was last revised. If a change is significant we will say so clearly rather than quietly amending the text.
