Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)
Compulsory Basic Training: the legal first step every new rider takes before riding on the road.
A structured one-day course that takes you from the classroom to a supervised road ride. You'll work through the five DVSA elements: introduction, on-site training, on-site riding, road-safety theory and a road ride, and finish with a CBT certificate that lets you ride on L-plates for two years.
Learning material
Your training is supported by the Ride Free online learning platform, the DVSA Learning to Ride manual and the Highway Code.
